Re: Lakes Entrance Ride
The forum software is cutting the side off some of the pictures. Hopefully this can be fixed.
Meanwhile have a look here https://s29.photobucket.com/user/farawayman/slideshow/ULYSSES%20stuff/Lakes%20Entrance%20Ulysses%20Weekend

Lakes Entrance Ride
Great photos once more Dave. Your commitment shows - that was just like going all the way round again. Good company and landscapes in mighty country. Thanks again Bernie

Re: Lakes Entrance Ride
Great photos Blydie that bring back all the memories. You make us look good!
Sue and I have been looking at the cutting off the side issue. I have the total picture on all photos with my pc but Sue has it cropped on the right hand side on hers. Her screen is narrower than my pc. Sue has gone in to the code and it simply gives the address from photobucket. I wonder if the issue is between photobucket and importing. I will try to post Sue's pics on using the 'host an image' command in the menu on 'post a reply' and see if there is any issue with those photos.

Re: Lakes Entrance Ride
Bruce, it looks to me as the auto resizing is not working on the forum software. See my post (Testing) above of Kev and Pam. One photo manually resized to 500 pixels wide shows the full width. The second original photo is resized to fit into 1024 X 1024 is cut off. The forum software should resize pictures to fit into the space the designer of the page has made for it. It looks to me that Forumotion is resizing the vertical shots not the horizontal shots hence the problem.
1024 is a very common size for photos for use on the web as its big enough to fill what was once considered an average screen (15") but is still a usable sized file. I use it as it allows people to download a picture use it as a wallpaper/screensaver or even print a small print, if they want, and they are most welcome.
I have been sizing my pictures this way for years and have posted pictures on many forums without problems

Re: Lakes Entrance Ride
Where I am coming from is I can see the pics in full on 2 of 3 pc's at home and also my work pc. They all have a larger screen horizontally. I don't know much about what hosting programs can or can't do but I do know Photobucket did an upgrade recently.
My work recently changed it's data projectors and in the process moved from a 4:3 ratio to a 16:10 ratio. I changed my regular powerpoints to 16:10 and found they stretched to fit the new dimensions. If your pics are showing in their totality on a wider screen but not on a shorter screen, my suspicion is the ratio of the pictures being processed are remaining the same in the website host program and rather than compress the images, they are being chopped from the RH side.
Whether I am right or wrong, are you okay if I pull a couple of the images for the Grapevine? If you give permission and their resolution is insufficient, I'll PM or email you for original dimensions for the specific pics. I intend to leave the copyright watermark on all published photos.

Re: Lakes Entrance Ride
Grab any photos you need, Bruce
I have tried on a few computers both PC and Mac, they all seem to cut the photos off. I still think it is a forum software problem.

Re: Lakes Entrance Ride
Blydie and all members
There has been a lot of poorly informed comments on this forum over pictures being cut off by Forum Software and I am getting rather sick of people blaming the website.
The forum does NOT have any ability whatsoever to alter pictures posted or any other postings made by subscribers and especially picture size or picture orientation!
The Administration Panel contains no options for the Administrator to dictate picture size or picture orientation.
I hope this is clear to everyone!!
What you post is what is seen so therefore if photos are loosing edges then they are being posted at a size larger than what is the accepted dimensions for proper display on a webpage and they are not being cropped or reorientated or repositioned by the Software - they are just too big to fit!!
400 pixel width is quite wide for the web page, 800 pixels would be almost full screen on a web page with a monitor resolution of 1280 x 1024 so to display properly your width should be kept to around 500 Pixels wide.
If you are losing edges then reduce the size of the image to between 400 to 600 pixels on the longest width dimension and experiment with different widths until it all fits taking care to acknowledge that the pictures will be viewed on computer screens many of which are in the old 4:3 screen ratio whilst the later models have screens at the 16:9 Ratio so this means what appears ok on a 16:9 screen ratio may not work the same way on the squarer 4:3.
Pixel file size also is factor which must be considered and in general terms file sizes are best kept under 500kb.
I hope this will put an end to the comments but just to make it clear yet again - The Board Software does not and cannot alter pictures.

Maybe the information given to me is wrong, you get what you pay for i suppose.
Maybe it would be prudent to put up a sticky with what specifications pictures need to be, seeing as this section is called "Pictures of my Travels!"

Photos Being Clipped
Hi Guys,
I can confirm the issue is a function of the end user's browser and the size of the photos posted, not anything to do with the forum.
I can set my browser to either show the entire picture or cut it off.....
The only issue I seem to have with these pictures is that they are so large and in great numbers it takes a while to download them even with a cable internet connection. Maybe we should ask "photobucket" to upgrade their servers?
I like the photos Blydie, they are brilliant!
Cheers,
Nigel

Tip for showing the entire picture.
Hi Guys,
With either windows internet explorer or firefox internet browser it is possible to cut the edges off a picture and restore the whole picture by pressing [control] plus the [+]or[-] Keys. This gives the end user almost complete control over how a picture and any text is displayed with either browser. This is a feature designed to benefit those of us with challenged vision when we get older such as myself.
The pressing [CTRL] and [-] simultaneously makes the pictures smaller so that it can be displayed in entirety by your browser while the opposite is true with [CTRL] and [+]. Please note for that window where you set the size it will remain that way until you adjust it again.
Alternatively if your PC has a wheel mouse pressing [CTRL] and turning the wheel simultaneously does the same thing....
good luck,
Nigel
