Re: Broome 2013
Part 2
After a big night we headed up the highway to Larimah
Stopped at Frans Teahouse for some morning tea . What a character !
Makes the best Buffalo Rolls ever !
And then it was off to Mataranka for a dip in the springs .Bitter Springs is the best in my book
And then off to Katherine Gorge where we stayed a couple of days
Then into Western Australia
And Lake Argyle
Five rivers lookout at Wyndham
On to the Gibb River Road
Crossing the Penticost River
Not a good place to get a flat tyre !
There was no fixing this on the side of the road !
Had to walk it back to Home valley station and camp for a few days
Ordered a tyre from Kunanurra and wait for someone coming by to drop it off
Road tyre but that was all I could get !
Hindsight 20psi was too much , 15 would have been better
Then off to the Bungle Bungles
Then Fitzroy Crossing and Derby
Geikie Gorge on the Fitzroy River well worth a visit
We picked the wettest day on record to head for Broome
where the wives joined us for a few days
Back on the road
Who said the mining boom was over
If it wasn't machinery or truck loads of tyres it was prefab houses and dongas, all heading north
We continued hopping down the coast with stops at Port Hedland ,Karratha and Geraldton
Unfortunately Perth was the end of the trip for our party who had work commitments.
I had a bit of extra time and headed down to the Southwest before crossing the Nullabor and heading for home
Another flat tyre
This young lady was doing a lap on her pushbike ( 75 years old from Germany )
The Lap
Well thats about it for this trip report
I had an absolute ball
Looking forward to the next one !!

Broome 2013
Hi Folks
I haven't posted a report for a while ,so here is my last trip away
We left Melbourne on May 17 early with light rain falling .The plan was to go up to Normanton and then across to Broome to meet up with the wives .When I say we that is a few mates , Tim on a DR 650 and Michael and Paul in a Hilux
Tim
Me -Did say it was a cold start ?
First Pub - Merriwagga
After a late lunch in Hilston we camped behind the Mt Hope Pub
from mt Hope it was up thru Cobar , Bourke and into Queensland and camped at Charleville
The Darling River at Bourke
Then Charleville thru Winton to Kynuna
North Gregory Hotel in Winton
Waltzing Matilda was first performed here 1895
Sunrise beind the pub at Kynuna
Then Cloncurrry north to Burke and Wills then Normanton and on to Karumba
Hot up here !!
Kris the croc ( Shot in 1957 28 feet 4 inches long )
Sunset
Unless you are in WA it is one of the few places to get a sunset over the water
Back to Normanton and head west along Savanah Way thru Burketown ,Doomagee, Hells Gate to Boroloola
Its about 300kms from Hells Gate thru to Borroloola and it is Highway 1 , but its pretty remote we saw very few people
Note to self - side stand other side !
From Borroloola it was up to King Ash Bay
About 40kms out of town road was a bit corrugated but the drive is worth it
This is the place if you want to get away from the rat race !! A fishing camp ( bring your own van or build your own shack ) owned by the members complete with it own bar. Borroloola however is the pits , hot , dusty & dirty can't get a cold one .
Sorry - no photo here
Back Borroloola to Cape Crawford and Daly Waters
Stopped at Caranbirini conservation reserve .Nice for a stop and stretch the legs
Have a look at this for survival skills . Not an ounce of dirt ,but it grows anyway
Daly waters was very busy .Last time I was here the camp ground beside the pub was empty. This time the campground was full so was the block over the road and they were turning people away.
More soon
