Ride to Alexandra for MAOTY Presentation Sat May 2nd 2015
Some 28 bikes headed off from Brunch Cafe at 11.00am on Saturday May 2nd heading for Alexandra. The purpose of the ride was to present the Vic/Tas zone winner of the Motorcycle Apprentice of the Year (MAOTY) with his certificate and prize. Karl Davenport works at Davenport Auto Electrics (S & C Motorcycles) owned & managed by his father, Stephen.
The trip up was a simple one travelling through Lilydale and along Maroondah Highway through Healesville, up the Black Spur through Buxton to Alexandra where Stephen had provided a BBQ & drinks for us and other invitees from the local Red Plate Club, former motorcycle racers and of course Karl's family members.
There was a large variety of classic, vintage & racing motorcycles on display at the business premises and it was fun to poke around the many project and unusual bikes, quads, buggies and sidecar rigs, etc. We were well fed with the freshest lamb that I've tasted in a while - according to the cook, it was galloping around in the paddocks four days prior!!.
I made the presentation to Karl and the formal stuff concluded with a couple of short speeches. It appeared that Karl was a very popular winner.
A few members decided to go home the long way and the rest of the group headed off via the Whanregarwen Road to Molesworth and then dawdled to Yea @ 80km/hr!! It's hard to understand the logic behind this speed limit but it's VERY boring. We went on down the Melba Highway to Yarra Glen in bright sunshine for a coffee & goodbyes.
