And within a blink of an eye, the 2018 Twin Spur Rally has been and gone. This year, the Rally could be best described as a Rally for ducks…. It dos`nt matter how you sugar coat it….it was a very wet few days in Marysville.
The 2018 Rally was our 4TH year at Marysville and without doubt the wettest. But, despite the conditions, the show went on. For those that hav`nt previously done the Rally, we combine a bit of riding, a bit of quizzing, a bit of betting on the human horses and a bit of socialising. The venue is the Marysville Caravan Park and its located in the heart of Marysville. The Park caters for all types of accommodation needs and has an array of not so wild wildlife wondering through the park. Ironically, at the 2017 Rally, many of us were sitting in the River that flows through the Park looking for relief from the heat.
The 2018 Rally saw nearly 90 registered starters and from all accounts, It was a huge success. Despite the conditions, the show simply went on.
These types of events take a lot of planning and hard work and I`d like to thank each and everyone of you that made it a success. It`s always great to see people just jump into situations and make things happen. I do need to thank a few people for their “above & beyond” performances.
In no particular order……
The food was simply amazing this year….The Friday night BBQ and salads along with the breakfasts were brilliant – A big Thankyou to the Rattler (& helpers) for feeding the masses and taking on this mammoth task. I want to thank the Musicians and entertainers who quizzed us and then entertained us on Saturday night. Thanks to the Tandy boys, Peter Ross and Gavin Martin who had us laughing, debating and even dancing – well done team…..the amount of hours of work that went into these activities is amazing. Also, thanks to Henry who managed the human horses on a very heavy track and thanks to the ride leaders and TEC`s….It should be noted that approx. a dozen of us managed to complete a fantastic ride on Saturday on dry roads. Thanks to Bernie & Anne Holmes that managed the logistics around the trailer. And last but not least, those on the committee that just continue to put in hour after hour to make sure everything runs like clockwork. No doubt I will have forgotten someone so please feel free to abuse me….it comes with the role.
Over the weekend, I managed to talk with quite a few members regarding the future of Rally’s at Marysville. A small number thought that we should be looking for a new venue however didn’t know where that venue may be located. So, unless there is a miracle where a new venue that is better than Marysville presents itself, we will again book Marysville for November 2019 – we will announce that date shortly. Can I encourage those that had issues with their accommodation to please discuss it with the Parks Management…..polite and professional feedback is a gift!
Once again, a big thankyou to all who attended and assisted with the event. It was very pleasing to see so many new faces attending this event. I need to also mention that Ange and Mary from Griffith Branch were awarded honorary Yarra Ranges membership status for their ongoing support of the Branches Rally.
