Flathead Tales

Post by SED1 on Wed Oct 16 2013, 21:10

I think it is a flathead. The knuckleheads seem to run a more visible pushrod assembly..probably a WL750. I've been looking for examples with the slim tank badge as shown by Danny, and have found a 1947 model that fits..So lets try a 1947 Harley Davidson WL 750 Flathead

I reckon this is a 1946 Harley Davison Knuckle Head so called after the shape of its rocker cover. Also known as a 61E. It was pitted against the Indian and was the ancestor of all modern Harleys.
The power unit is a 61 ci (1000 cc) v-twin with ohv and recirculating oil system which was a technological advance on other engines of the time..

Its called a WL55 but is actually a 1946 Model. The unique bit appears to be the tank emblem

Well how about a 1945 WL Harley Flathead? Certainly looks like a Harley light on the front mudguard.
