B.24 LIBERATOR & POINT COOK 2016

Post by JOHN ECKHART (FONZE) on Mon May 30 2016, 16:36

Magnificent turn up  50  members including several other Branches enjoyed a crisp morning but otherwise fine day to re visit the restoration of one of the more famous World War 2 Bombers.  This restoration has been ongoing for 25 years and we usually have a bi-annual visit to see its progress.  The restoration work is fabulous , plus the running of one of the engines is something that has to been seen and heard to appreciate the power and noise that accompanied these planes.  We had a morning tea set aside and waiting our arrival and the guides were most helpful and informative.   Onward to Point Cook RAAF base, and after clearance at the security we were treated to a wonderful serving of soup followed by a beautiful BBQ - well done and thanks to those who had all this prepared and waiting for our arrival.  I guess we missed the actual flying display but were treated to three Blackhawk helicopters coming in and landing on some sort of manoeuvres. An informative wander through the various museum displays with helpful staff completed our day.
A big thanks to all those involved to make this one of the special events on our calendar.
Cheers  FONZ  ( left the bike at home and four wheeled it)
