RIDE REPORT ON ROB ROY HILL CLIMB

Post by JOHN ECKHART (FONZE) on Tue May 17 2016, 09:40

I received this from Gavin (snake) and I have submitted it on his behalf.

Yarra Ranges Ulysses ride to Rob Roy 15-05-2016
With bright sunshine and clear skies the group enjoyed the 1 hour and twenty minute leisurely cruise from Brunch café in Kilsyth to the home of the MG Car Club Rob Roy where after paying our $5 entrance fee we were directed by MG Car Club officials to a designated flat area of ground that had a been cordoned off by Wayne Rushton Rob Roy Co-ordinator for use by the Yarra Ranges Branch.
As we dismounted the PA announcer Don in his usual velvet tongue proclaimed our arrival and everybody made us most welcome. For those who have never been to Rob Roy it is a 600 metre very narrow slippery track built in the 1930’s that winds up a gully across a creek and is an extremely difficult test for both man and machine. All makes models and years of cars run against the clock from a standing start and as a spectator you are free to wander through the pit paddocks talk to the drivers or you can just sit down and listen to the commentators explain cars histories and other anecdotal stories.
Situated on Clintons Rd Christmas Hills only 15 minutes out of Warrandyte Rob Roy is a totally unique motoring experience. Set against a background of Aussie bushland you witness up close and personal the scream of tortured engines ,hear drivers adjusting the throttle percentages to be as fast as they can be and take in the smell of rubber which is always the by- product of these gentlemens endeavours
Snake

Special thanks to the MG Car club of Vic
