2016 Blue Duck

Post by r055 on Sat Jan 23 2016, 23:48

This year's Blue Duck was like every other year - different!

The weather on Thursday was wet and everybody was glad to reach the Blue Duck and get the fires going to dry saturated jackets and gloves.

The Friday ride to Mount Beauty via Mount Bogong was a bit nippy, the KTM temperature gauge was showing 1.7 C just before we reached the Falls Creek village.  The high country weather conditions made the Rock Valley Dam water look like it was boiling (the warm body of water, chopped up on the surface by the cold alpine wind caused clouds of water vapour to roll onto the surrounding land and road).
This year, the Saturday's Blue Duck games took everbody back to Gerds childhood with questions about Germanic fairy tales and Shakesphere, and of course the epic dummy spitting challenge.

The ride home on Sunday started with a gentle roll down the hill to Omeo for breakfast, then Steve G. set a cracking pace in the dash to Bright for morning tea.  Mr Plod tempered the pace when Graham P spotted the highway patrol and "Safety Check" that followed once they completed their U turn and eventually pulled about 10 of us over just before Bonnie Doon.

Everybody had a terrific time thanks to Gerd's ride leadership.  Pam and the team of cabin cooktop chefs also made sure everybody had plenty to eat for breakfast and dinner.  It was also good to see Shorty and a few of his mates who joined everybody for tea on Saturday night.

Next year will be the 10th anniversary of this ride and like every other year, the Blue Duck Ride is something you shouldn't miss.

Morning tea at Mt Beauty on Saturday, before nipping along the Redbank-Mongans Rd. heading to Mitta Mitta and then back to the Blue Duck.

Thanks again Gerd for a great weekend.
