Refused service

Hi crazy cats

I always take my helmet off when I refuel and have absolutely no problem at all with retailers requesting this because I can see what they have to deal with

eg I pull up on the mighty Japanese UJM in a cloud of tyre smoke and brake dust at the local self serv I am dressed in black from head to toe full face helmet on riding an all black Suzuki Bandit so for all  the counter attendant knows I could be about  to walk in and rob the store  but he/she  wont be able to give the Police a detailed description of me because I am wearing a helmet.

In the USA you cannot refuel unless you have paid in advance and in some places you still have to take your helmet off if you are wearing one so I am guessing we will go down this road

I just wish burn-outs were legal................................again

Bruce, Wearing a balaclava only,you would obviously not be served but you could be done for indecent exposure.

That's quite reasonable Don. In future I WILL take my helmet off, refuel, and go in with only my balaclava covering my face!

I see the situation slightly differently. I don't mind getting to a pump in a busy petrol station, getting off the bike, taking off the helmet, glasses and gloves. Select the type of fuel, fill the tank, walk in, stand in a queue and pay. Walk all the way back, put on helmet, glasses and gloves then get on the bike. This is when you look behind you at all the cars waiting for your bowser. Suffer in your jocks!

is this the Ulysses over 40"s Motor Cycle club or the local 4 year old kindergarten???....my grand kids show more respect to each other than you so called adults!!!!1

The comments were not aimed at Bruce or Nigel both of whom are big enough to come see me personally if they are offended and don't need you to fight for them in a public forum!
The comments were aimed solely at the issue and the fact that nothing has changed since the last time the subject was aired and are unlikely to change any time soon.
You have a problem with me - come see me in person and not on the Forum.

Excuse me Ron but this matter does have to do with motorcyclists & our rights etc. If you don't like what people are saying & it sticks in your craw then it's easy DO NOT COMMENT!! but don't bag other members who are interested in the subject. Nigel, myself & bruce are bringing up valid points if that annoys you & you don't like the topic then don't comment but don't get into other members for having their RIGHTFUL SAY.

This is an old and very very tired subject that gets pulled out of the closet every so often the cobwebs dusted off with all the other accumulated detritus and given yet another flogging and surprise surprise NOTHING has changed since the last time!!!    

I have astounded myself that even I got sucked into putting up a comment yet again!    

My closing remark is:

If you have a issue with this take it up with Consumer Affairs or Australian Human Rights Commission!!

It is not going to change just because we post a complaints ad nausea on the Forum.

I think its time it was consigned back into the dark hole from whence it came.

Its never that simple imo.

While I personally agree to remove my helmet if it obscures my face, when it doesn't I can see no valid reason to remove it. Retailers do not have the right to act in a discriminatory manor or behave in a way that denies natural justice. If they do they face the possibility of sanctions from members of the community they discriminate against.

As it is I have noticed when a group of bikers turn up for fuel this "term of service" often gets ignored in the interest of keeping the register moving. It always seems to only be enforced when there is one lone biker so they can get away with the discrimination.

For instance what would happen to their business if a few dozen bikers turned up and refused to remove their helmets at every pump? Each one sitting there and waiting for ten minutes removing their helmet to fill then put them back on to pay. If they kept it up I suspect the costs to the business would soon force a change in their terms of service.

Sure the police would turn up and the bikers would have to move on for a while if ordered to do so by the police. Only to return when the police have left.
It could be explained to the police as a dispute over terms of service that does not actually require their intervention. The bikers would not be breaking any laws by carrying out this protest as long as they complied with any lawful commands and did not threaten the service station staff.

Folks at the service station would find this behavior extremely irritating but since they apparently don't like bikers anyway who cares.
Civil Disobedience for a cause at it's best lol.

Generally I find I have no problems with this behavior where I am known. The attendants never give me any grief about my flip-top helmet.

This is the same old same, same old issue that gets a regular airing every few months!

The Merchant - whether it be 7/11, Caltex, Myer, Target, Bunnings or your corner Milk Bar has the right to refuse you service for what ever reason whether you think it rational or not - so get over it!!

The Sale of Fuel occurs at the Pump NOT the Cashiers Register. They have the right not to Release the Pump if they chose not to for what ever reason stupid or otherwise like the not liking your yellow polka dot shirt or your shiny Lid! However having Released the Pump they cannot refuse to accept payment even if you have you Lid on.

ts unfair, not right, discriminatory etc etc etc - but at the end of the day Conditions of Entry are still the right of the Retailer so we just have to grin and bear it or go elsewhere.

You will not change it by boycotting the servo - they frankly don't give Rats about your $25 bucks worth because the truck behind you wants $1250 bucks worth so we Bikers are just a piddle in the ocean.

Sorry folks but that is the cold facts. If you don't like it go elsewhere! No one says you HAVE to buy their fuel. Just they have the right to refuse to take your business YOU have the right to choose where to spend your Money.

The catch is, as you say, other 7/11's don't refuse service. So boycotting all 7/11's could prove counter-productive. It's like Sue was refused service by a Caltex in north Berri. So she rode on to service at a Caltex in south Berri where the lady couldn't be more friendly.

I think you set a good precedent. Name the specific servos and boycott them.

Yes Bruce about 15 months ago I was returning from the Meet & greet ride at Mt Franklin I pulled into the 7/11 near Kakallo. Picked up the pump (with helmet on ) didn't work so I rode to another pump picked it up & same thing pump not going. Next minute the operator says thru the speaker that my pump will not be turned on until I took off my helmet!!
This is absolutely B'S and the ONLY REASON I took my helmet off and went into pay was bcos I had been on reserve for 25 km & really needed fuel. I was rope able and told them in no uncertain terms what I thought he said sorry this is Company policy!!

That is B'S because 7/11 in Kilsyth &FTG both have no probs with helmet wearing but maybe some of their franchises do.

Perhaps all riders can boycott 7/11 until they drop this ridiculous half witted policy.

I pulled in to the 7-11 east of Five-Ways, Wantirna on my 250cc scooter with my brown cordura bike jacket; and the attendant refused service because I had my helmet. I refused to co-operate with this discriminatory and unjustified behaviour and left. I obviously looked threatening.
